Diocese of Mangalore
Belvai parish has a rich history dating back to when it was part of the Moodbidri-Alangar church. With the vision of establishing a missionary center in Belvai, Fr Francis Xavier D'Souza requested and got a government grant of 2 acres of land and bought another 5 acres of land in 1967.
To honor the legacy of the then Alangar Parish Priest Msgr Francis Elias Dsouza, on his 10th Death Anniversary, Fr Francis Xavier D'Souza constructed a chapel in Belvai with the help of many people. This chapel was inaugurated on April 27, 1969, by the then Bishop Most Rev. Basil S Dsouza marking a significant milestone in the parish's journey. The regular Sunday Mass commenced on August 15, 1969, solidifying the parish's presence in the community.
On June 1, 1971, the church was elevated to the status of a parish. Fr Francis Xavier D'Souza became the first parish priest, and further enhanced the church by constructing the belfry.
